Carbon Trust aims to cut business energy costs - 05/02/2009

The Carbon Trust has initiated a campaign intended to reduce business energy costs in the UK by £1 million every day.

Companies across the UK are being encouraged to take measures to improve their energy efficiency and contribute to a wider push to access cheap business energy.

Supported by the government and a range of high-profile businesses and entrepreneurs, the One Million A Day plan will attempt to get businesses to save 20 per cent on their energy bills by installing insulation, energy-efficient lights and adopting a variety of additional measures.

Tom Delay, chief executive of the Carbon Trust said: "As UK companies look for strategies to weather the recession it makes business sense to join the Carbon Trust campaign to cut costs by cutting carbon."

Small and medium-sized enterprises, which may be more vulnerable to current economic conditions, could be eligible to an interest-free loan of up to £200,000 to help pursue lower business energy costs.

The government has committed to energy efficiency as a way of tackling price rises from energy suppliers.
