The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has announced new proposals to invest more money in developing a green energy scheme.
In a move designed to help the region migrate to a low carbon economy, the NWDA has announced £30 million worth of investment in a variety of measures aimed at helping local businesses cut their carbon emissions.
"The NWDA recognises that in today's challenging economic climate it is more important than ever before that we are not sidetracked from the government's agenda to hit its targets for the reduction of greenhouse gases," said the agency's chairman, Bryan Gray.
He added: "The recent budget announcement to cut carbon emissions by 34 per cent by 2020 must begin with local and regional action, by supporting low carbon industries and investing in energy efficiency schemes for homes, businesses and public organisations."
The government has recently announced proposals to increase the development of green energy initiatives, through scoping out new locations for the hosting of marine energy technology.
It is hoped such moves will be used by companies to develop new green energy solutions that can be used to provide cheap energy that will also cut the amount of carbon emissions being produced in the UK.
