Breaking News from energyhelpline.com: the gas & electricity switching service that compares all energy suppliers – Cheap electricity technologies demonstrated - 23/04/2010

Consumers in Midlothian, Scotland, have been shown how future innovations will help them to get cheap electricity.

Contractors TB Mackay have turned the home of a former miner owned by Newtongrange resident Audrey Waterston into a showcase for money saving energy efficient designs.

According to the Advertiser, the 61-year-old could save up to £570 a year on her energy bills while also cutting the amount of carbon emissions caused by the house to 4,912 kg for the same period.

Roof insulation, underfloor heating, sash and case sustainable windows, low-energy lighting, A-rated white goods and roof-mounted solar collectors will all bring down costs for the homeowner, the firm said.

The Energy Savings Trust will investigate the benefits of the technology over two years.

The provision of cheap energy is building up to be one of the main battlegrounds in the Scottish general election next month.

The BBC recently reported that Scottish political parties are all focussing on getting cheap and green electricity to consumers in the country in the run-up to the general election on May 6th.
