An environment industry figure has called on the government to focus on cheap energy and implement plans for the green investment bank.
Simon Bullock, economy campaigner at Friends of the Earth, said the main aim of the new government should be to set up the bank within a year to have proper legislation and to have sufficient capital to leverage millions of pounds of private sector investment.
He also called for the new green investment bank to have a clear remit on renewable and cheap energy efficiency.
"If the government were to get the bank running with enough money and a clear focus, I think that would send an extremely strong signal to business that this new government is very serious about the low carbon economy," Mr Bullock commented.
He added that although the government has a lot of priorities, the low carbon economy should be at the forefront of its agenda.
