Energy suppliers British Gas offer free insulation to over 60s - 29/09/2010

Energy suppliers British Gas have launched a new scheme designed to give customers over 60 free insulation.

Around £10 million worth of insulation will be installed free of charge by the company in order to help elderly customers reduce their energy bills by about £110 a year.

The offer is open to all British Gas customers aged over 60 who own a property with walls suitable for insulation. All customers keen to take up the offer have been urged to call British Gas in order to arrange a free survey.

Jon Kimber of British Gas New Energy said the offer is timely, as many households will be on the lookout for energy saving schemes as the temperature drops.

"With winter approaching and the financial outlook remaining uncertain, we know people are looking at ways to save," he told the Mirror.

"£1 in every £4 spent on heating is wasted due to poor insulation so energy efficiency can have a massive impact."
