Renewable energy sector 'has shortage of skilled workers' - 03/02/2011
There is a shortage of skilled workers in the cheap energy sector, according to Acre Resources.
Ben Cartland, associate at the recruitment firm, commented that the majority of positions in the renewable energy industry created in the last year have been in support capacities.
His comments came as a response to research from RenewableUK and Energy & Utility Skills showing that the wind energy sector has seen a 91 per cent rise in the number of full-time employees between 2007 and 2010.
However, Mr Cartland still believes that these figures do not represent the whole picture.
"Whilst undoubtedly there has been a surge in the number of wind power-focused companies developing their operations in the UK, these figures seem to focus on every job function within these firms," he pointed out.
While there is "plenty of supply" for the non-technical positions, "competition is rife for those with specific technical wind turbine engineering experience and the employers in the sector are having to look for similar skill sets from other industries to meet demand", Mr Cartland added.
