Residents who are hoping to avoid shelling out more for heating their home this winter could do well to compare energy prices online and switch gas and electricity deals for cheaper options.
The Western Morning News reported that householders in the west country could find it difficult to keep up with their bill payments this winter as five of the Big Six energy suppliers have hiked their prices by as much as 19 per cent.
John Egan of Enact Energy told the newspaper: "People are becoming more and more concerned with the cost of energy and you can fully understand why.
"The impact that the latest round of energy price increases will have on Cornish households is potentially massive - and in turn people are now really looking at alternative ways of heating their homes and reducing their energy usage."
Figures cited by the publication reveal that the 118,000 properties in Cornwall that are not on the mains gas network could be hit with an extra £5.5 million for their bills because of the rising cost of fuel.
