Scam company masquerading as E.ON targets householders in Scotland - 30/09/2011
Customers of one of the Big Six energy suppliers have been warned to remain vigilant against a scam that is targeting cheap gas and electricity users.
Householders in the Scottish town of Thurso have been receiving colds calls purporting to be from energy supplier E.ON asking people to invest in a new energy saving device.
According to the John O'Groat Journal, the scamming company has been telling energy users about equipment that can reduce electricity use by 40 per cent and attempting to persuade them to pay £100 for it.
Acting Sergeant Brian Hamilton of Thurso Police Station told the publication: "The company making these calls are not E.ON Energy and we advise householders that no details are given to the caller."
E.ON is also looking into the scam and has confirmed that it offers no such product.
Meanwhile, Scottish householders could be eligible for new government funding to make their home more energy efficient by way of installing loft and wall cavity insulation.
