The Scottish government has called on energy suppliers to build on the success of 2011 and invest more into developing renewable power sources in the country.
In his new year message, the nation's energy minister Fergus Ewing stated while the last year had been extremely positive for the industry, he is confident 2012 can be even better.
Industry figures for the year to October 2011 revealed £750 million worth of renewable energy investment was pumped into Scotland, while there are 7GW of projects in operation or under construction.
Mr Ewing said: "I am relentlessly positive for 2012 and firmly believe we will build on 2011's successes to make it an even better year."
This progress may be good news for the country, as it has set a target of generating the equivalent of 100 per cent of its electricity needs from green sources by 2020.
Mr Ewing's statement comes shortly after energy secretary Chris Huhne said investing in renewable power will help secure the UK's future energy supply and reduce the nation's carbon emissions.
