People who are looking to get cheap gas and electricity prices by comparing energy suppliers may also like to invest in energy efficiency measures to make their home cheaper to keep warm.
While switching tariffs to a cheaper deal could save hundreds of pounds per year on bills, individuals may find a well insulated home can also help deliver savings.
Therefore, Scotland's housing minister Keith Brown urged people to find out what grants are available to help achieve this.
He said: "On average you can save £175 a year by installing loft insulation. That money could be put to better use."
The minister added if this improvement is combined with cavity wall insulation, savings could be as much as £280.
Mr Brown encouraged people in Scotland to use the Home Energy Scotland Hotline to see if they are eligible for grants, while it was previously noted more than 34,000 individuals have already used the service this winter.
