EDF is to invest £4.5 million to help customers struggling to cope with high gas and electricity prices following an investigation by Ofgem.
The industry regulator found the supplier to have breached marketing licence conditions relating to the clarity and accuracy of its sales information and EDF has agreed to pay financial package in order to help restore consumer confidence.
The majority of the money - £3.5 million - will go to its most vulnerable account holders, while the remaining £1 million will be invested in the Energy Best Deal programme.
Managing director of energy sourcing and customer supply at EDF Martin Lawrence says the company is "obviously disappointed" that it "failed to live up to the high standards" it sets itself.
He adds the supplier wants "people to be confident that, when they buy from EDF Energy, they are getting fair prices and consistently clear and simple information.”
Ofgem's Sarah Harrison praised EDF, which finished bottom of the regulator's most recent complaints table, saying it has "done the right thing".
