Move to switch energy source welcomed by supplier - 05/02/2010

A new scheme designed to encourage people to invest in green energy systems has been welcomed by energy suppliers.

The country's fourth-largest supplier, npower, supported the government's scheme to encourage more consumers to install solar photovoltaic panels to boost local energy generation.

Installing such products could help consumers to benefit from cheap energy bills and possibly even generate an income on electricity that is pumped in to the grid.

Director of energy services at npower Julia Lynch Williams said that homeowners how have more opportunity than ever before to generate their own income by providing power to the energy suppliers.

Besides generating their own electricity, homeowners can follow a number of options to save money on their power bills. Using a comparison service such as that offered by energyhelpline.com allows consumers to compare energy prices and switch energy suppliers to take advantage of the cheapest deals.

Opting to properly insulate a home can also help save homeowners money on their bills, as less energy may be used to keep the home warm.
