Sustainable cheap energy 'should be supported by government' - 05/11/2010
The government should encourage the development of sustainable sources of cheap energy from domestic supplies, it has been suggested.
Daniel Green, CEO of HomeSun, an organisation that works to boost access to low-cost solar energy schemes, said the government should work to encourage domestic energy users to make green investments.
He argued that people in general express concern over the initial outlay involved in fitting solar panels or other domestic energy supplies.
Mr Green suggested that if government helps people to invest initially, individuals would continue investing in their homes.
"When it comes to renewables, the government must be long-sighted and make an investment in this country now that they will reap back just in the same way that the consumer will reap back benefits from their investment in efficiency," he said.
Mr Green's comments follow an announcement from energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne confirming the development of the Green Deal, designed to promote energy efficiency in homes and businesses across the country.
