The government is not doing enough to promote green home building to ensure that consumers hoping to switch gas are not paying more than they should to heat their properties.
This is the opinion of Chayley Collis, marketing manager for Green Building Store, which offers products for low energy homes in order to save energy and money.
She said that the Passivhaus approach to building low energy buildings is just starting to take off in the UK.
"There are various organisations that are pushing that as well. It's all a sort of mindset really, it is a way of approaching energy bills," she explained.
Passivhaus features five main parts, including 'super-insulation' and air tightness.
"You need a building to be really airtight, otherwise you are losing heat out of the building," Ms Collis pointed out.
"At the moment we have got the Code for Sustainable Homes which is [from] the government and we don't feel that it is as effective as Passivhaus. We are really hoping that Passivhaus will take off more."
