The UK's first commercial wind farm is set to be reopened today (February 22nd), energy comparison customers might be interested to learn.
Energy secretary Chris Huhne is expected to relaunch the Delabole wind site in Cornwall 20 years after the farm first opened.
Four new turbines have been installed onsite and the new additions will help contribute 9.2 megawatts of cheap electricity, which is enough to power 7,000 homes.
"Delabole was the first commercial wind farm in the UK and, in its new form, it remains at the forefront of best practice," explained Mr Huhne.
"Wind is an abundant, clean, home-grown alternative to fossil fuels. It can't be blown off course by instability abroad and so it's vital we use it for our low-carbon, energy security."
Mr Huhne's comments come after energy supplier Ececo announced that a new offshore wind farm could be installed off the Dorset and Hampshire coast if planning permission is granted.
