British Gas to install electric charging points for green vehicles - 03/03/2011
Energy comparison customers who are purchasing a new car might be interested to learn that British Gas is to supply electric car charging points.
The energy supplier announced plans to provide chargers for Nissan's Leaf model, which can be installed at home for an upfront fee of around £1,000 but require the installation of solar panels, with costs starting from £9,000.
Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, commented: "From today, Britons can drive an electric car powered by solar energy. The home of the future is here. A British Gas home with charge points, solar panels and smart meters is now a reality.
"We want our customers to use greener and cheaper energy. Partnering with Nissan on powering their electric cars is a very exciting driver of growth for British Gas as electric vehicles move into the mainstream," he added.
Electric charging points can also be installed in car parks, garages and domestic driveways.
