Scottish homes benefit from improved efficiency - 25/11/2011
Homeowners in Scotland who are looking to get cheap gas by performing an energy comparison may be enjoying lower bills obtained through improved efficiency.
A new report into the country's housing stock revealed there has been a large improvement in the number of abodes that have loft and cavity wall insulation, which has led to 62 per cent of homes in the nation being rated as good for their efficiency - up from 55 per cent in 2009.
This has also resulted in fuel poverty in Scotland dropping from 33 per cent to 28 per cent, something that was welcomed by cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital development Alex Neil.
"It is encouraging to see more Scots homes becoming increasingly energy efficient, with better insulation. That means a warmer home for people, giving them lower fuel and heating bills," he said.
One scheme to improve housing in the country has taken place in Glasgow, where a programme supported by Scottish and Southern Energy invested £3.3 million in measures such as insulation, new windows and improved boilers for more than 200 homes.
