Ofgem has welcomed moves by energy supplier SSE to commit to a range of measures that will include encouraging customers to switch energy deal to a cheaper tariff.
This week, the provider said it will offer all its customers an Annual Energy Review, which will alert them if there are deals available that would be better suited to their needs.
It is among ten new commitments the firm has outlined to increase trust in the industry.
The energy regulator's chief executive Alistair Buchanan said the announcement shows some firms are "stepping up to the plate" to try and restore the reputation of the sector.
"Our review found that competition is being stifled by a combination of tariff complexity, poor supplier behaviour and lack of transparency," he continued, which SSE's proposals will seek to tackle.
Mr Buchanan said Ofgem will be watching the developments carefully as it continues to develop its own programme of reforms to ensure customers are protected and can have faith in the industry.
