People switching energy companies could benefit from efficient house design - 04/06/2009
Homeowners seeking cheaper energy suppliers could find their bills reduced with a new Scandinavian housing concept, reports HIP-Consultant.co.uk.
The BoKloK concept offers housing with a high level of energy efficiency and has been developed in Britain for the first time at St James Village in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
Each property built to BoKloK guidelines scores an average of a B rating for energy efficiency in the UK, which is the second-highest level attainable, while most homes throughout England and Wales reach around an E rating.
Paul Sailes from HIP-Consultant.co.uk, told the website: "The BoKlok properties offer a great option for those interested in reducing their environmental impact and would like to benefit by saving from lower than average running costs."
Nearly 40 one and two-bedroom apartments have been constructed at St James Village to the BoKloK standards, in addition to nearly 15 terraced townhouses offering between two and three bedrooms each.
The government plans to install insulation in every UK home in order to pursue lower domestic energy bills.
