Energy supplier funding trains staff to provide efficiency advice - 20/08/2009
Ten people trained in efficiency techniques using funding from the Scottish Power Energy People Trust have helped people get better access to cheap energy rates.
The ten individuals were trained as part of the Hands On Project (Hop) and have since helped almost 100 residents in East Kilbride by giving out information on efficiency grants and telling vulnerable homeowners how to keep track of their energy usage.
Hop is one of nearly 120 projects that have collectively benefitted from over £5 million worth of funding from the trust, with money being channelled to almost 245,000 homes throughout the UK.
Ann Loughrey, Scottish Power's head of corporate social responsibility and the Scottish Power Energy People Trust's company secretary, said: "Advising people on the small steps they can take to save money and energy through efficiency measures is a great way of reducing the number of people living in fuel poverty."
The government recently pledged to insulate every home in the UK to help people enjoy better access to cheap energy rates.
