The cheap electricity industry must unite ahead of the impending Electricity Market Reforms, an energy service provider has said.
According to FMX Magazine, Bergen Energi has stated that industry watchdog Ofgem's criticism of the way energy suppliers inform customers of their tariffs causes unnecessary conflict.
Last month, the regulator hit out at the complex nature of billing customers for their cheap gas and electricity usage and said it would refer energy suppliers to the Competition Commission if tariffs are not simplified.
Simon Firth, key account manager at Bergen Energi, told the publication: "Rather than Ofgem dividing the industry at this critical time of change it should be working to smooth the relationship and find a solution that is palatable to all parties and which can be implemented quickly."
He argued that the current situation pits suppliers against regulators and added that we are "still a long way from where the industry needs to be to deliver electricity for end users of the future".
