Properties 'must be prepared' for the winter - 03/10/2011

Energy comparison customers looking to ensure they can obtain cheap gas through the winter months have been advised to ensure their properties are as eco-friendly as possible.

This is according to aspect.co.uk, which noted installing insulation measures to reduce heat loss can be an important way of reducing a home's energy usage.

As well as fitting loft and cavity wall insulation, homeowners should add draught-proofing measures to all doors, windows and letterboxes to help keep warmth contained, the website stated.

Managing director at the firm William Davies said: "Preparing your home for the wetter and colder weather is critical and property owners should not underestimate the work that needs to be undertaken."

The company also recommended individuals have their boiler serviced at least once a year, as this can help keep it working well and reduce fuel bills.

For those with older devices, the National Association of Estate Agents recently noted there are still several incentives available for people looking to replace their boiler with a more efficient model.
