'Modest improvements' can make a large difference to energy bills - 04/10/2011
Homeowners looking to switch gas and electricity suppliers in order to get cheap energy have been advised of ways they can significantly cut their bills.
Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, stated people need to be better educated about exactly what they can do to improve the efficiency of their properties.
He added renovating a home to be as green as possible does not have to be an expensive activity.
"It needs to be drilled home to them that for a relatively modest investment, they can make big savings over the long-term," Mr Leech stated.
The expert added this will be particularly important in the coming years as utility costs are likely to continue rising.
Mr Leech suggested it should be explained to energy customers on their bills how much money they could be saving if they fitted measures such as insulation.
Recently, rises in energy bills implemented by the Big Six providers were criticised by Labour's spokeswoman on energy Meg Hiller, who described the situation as a "national scandal".
