Householders requiring cheap electricity in Wales have been urged to shop around and compare energy prices from other suppliers.
Peter Black, Welsh Liberal Democrat assembly member for South Wales West, echoed a call from energy secretary Chris Huhne for people to vote with their feet and switch energy tariffs.
The politician said: "There is no doubt in my mind that consumers should hit back by shopping for cheaper alternatives."
He added: "That is something that is actually quite easy to do. The problem is that very few people do it. Only about one in six ever switch suppliers. If people want to do that then they should start at the energyhelpline.com website."
Mr Black's remarks came after the chair of Centrica, which owns British Gas, said price hikes are "inevitable" unless wholesale energy costs fall significantly.
