Ice-cream chief keen to create UK's biggest wind farm company - 16/09/2008

The chairman of ice-cream company Mackies of Scotland has called for landowners across Britain to join forces and create the UK's largest wind farm company.

Dr Maitland Mackie is looking to capitalise on predictions that the renewable energy sector could soon be worth £270 billion, as global prices continue to soar and dependence on domestic energy grows. Dr Mackie believes that establishing market superiority now could produce rich dividends, through opening investment of £10 million.

Dr Mackie told business.scotsman.com: "Farrmers and landowners are missing out on a colossal opportunity to be principal players in electricity generation through land-based wind power."

The majority of wind farms are currently established by energy suppliers and businesses looking to expand their investment portfolios, but Dr Mackie says that landowners have the opportunity to make a big impact in the burgeoning sector.

The businessman powers his own farm and ice-cream operations using wind turbines, and he is looking for an investment of £1,000 each from 10,000 landowners across the UK.
