Eco-friendly housing estate could facilitate cheap energy prices - 20/03/2009
A green housing estate scheduled to be built in Carlisle will offer a series of energy-efficient features which could help residents tackle high prices from
energy suppliers
.
The Cumberland News reports the Paddock will comprise more than 40 luxury homes built in line with the Code for Sustainable Homes and will offer apartments, townhouses and terraces.
Energy-saving features such as air source heat pumps, solar panels and windows with triple glazing will help to retain heat and reduce energy bills by up to 80 per cent for customers, while also cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions.
Martyn Boak, managing director of house-builder ND Homes, told the paper: "The homes have been planned with the modern needs and aspirations of the homeowner, as well as the very highest energy efficiency standards, in mind."
Mr Boak added that he anticipates an increased demand for new properties when the current housing slump is reversed.
All the major energy companies have now announced price reductions which could ease the pressure for many homeowners, although costs remain higher than in recent years.
