To compare energy prices and start saving

Install Automation LTD: Smart meters could help reduce bills from energy suppliers by 40% - 14/10/2009

Homeowners looking to switch energy firms in pursuit of cheaper bills could also consider installing a smart meter as they could save up to 40 per cent on their annual bills.

Adam Kent, managing director of Install Automation LTD, which sells a range of automated products, said its smart meters can interface with any technology in the home, so consumers can get an accurate idea of how much energy they are using and where they are using it.

He added that this level of consumer awareness can help homeowners compare energy practices and reduce their consumption.

Speaking at the recent Grand Designs Live 2009 conference in Birmingham, Mr Kent went on to say: "You can be a retail chain for 30 or 40 shops and this system will show you the consumption of the units in real time - it could even tell you if someone has plugged a two bar electric fire in the London, Islington branch."

The government plans to have completed a national roll-out of smart meters by 2020.
