Energy suppliers EDF Energy to cut gas prices by four per cent - 11/03/2010

Energy suppliers
EDF Energy have announced plans to cut gas prices by four per cent.

The company plans to implement the reduction from March 26th and is the fifth provider to cut prices.

Around 1.5 million gas customers are expected to benefit from the price cut, which forms part of EDF's drive to persuade customers on rival tariffs to switch energy providers.

EDF said standard bills for gas-only customers will be 6.9 per cent cheaper when the price cut comes into effect.

Meanwhile, customers paying by direct debit will benefit from even greater reductions, with prices dipping by 10.6 per cent.

EDF's latest price cut is the second in six months and follows a spate of reductions by major energy suppliers inspired by cuts in wholesale gas prices.

Earlier this week, npower announced that from March 26th, two million of its customers would benefit from a seven per cent reduction in gas prices. This means the average npower customer can expect to see a reduction of £50 in their annual bill.
