People planning to compare gas and electricity companies for the best prices could soon benefit from several multi-million pound projects investigating energy efficiency.
The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) is to begin work on six separate projects designed to investigate new ways to save energy and water, with the organisation footing the bulk of the £6 million budget.
Projects will focus on taking energy efficiency to the next level by way of wall construction fitted with high levels of insulation and lightweight building structures.
Richard Miller, who leads the Low Impact Building Innovation Platform at TSB, said: "UK businesses with innovative technologies, whether for new build or to improve the environmental performance of existing buildings, will be well placed to take advantage of the growing global demand for environmentally friendly buildings."
Significant progress will have to be made rapidly in order to achieve the government's ambitious targets in relation to emissions reductions in both domestic and commercial properties.
The government has encouraged more vulnerable households to seek information on what grants and assistance they can claim to help insulate their homes.
