UK signs G8 measures to tackle price rises from energy suppliers - 28/05/2009
Homeowners planning to switch energy companies may be pleased to hear the UK has signed a G8 measure to implement energy efficiency more quickly.
The International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation has been signed by member nations including the US, Japan, Italy and France and has been designed to share efficiency technology.
A sustainable buildings network, ensuring efficiency is implemented in a wide range of structures, will be one of the first measures to be put into action by the agreement.
Steven Chu, the US energy secretary, said: "This partnership can help lead the world toward greater energy efficiency. It will facilitate greater cooperation on our shared goals: a healthier planet and a stronger global economy."
Member countries will have their efficiency strategies compiled and measures will be developed to help verify the progress being made.
The UK government has pledged to insulate every home in the UK and nuclear redevelopment is to be initiated as a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuel-powered plants.
