Survey: 43% favour plan to switch energy to nuclear power stations - 03/12/2009
More than 40 per cent of people favour the plan to try to tackle prices from energy suppliers through nuclear redevelopment, a new survey suggests.
According to the research conducted by Ipsos MORI for the UK Nuclear Industry Association, less than 20 per cent of those surveyed oppose nuclear redevelopment, while the gender specifics are even higher, with more than half of men supporting nuclear power, reports World Nuclear News.
However, the figures also suggest a lack of general knowledge regarding nuclear power, with 27 per cent of men and 41 per cent of women saying they know 'almost nothing' about it.
A small proportion of those surveyed were aware of the low emissions, strong reliability and waste concerns surrounding nuclear power, but only 30 per cent were aware of the actual benefits of the technology.
The government recently released details of ten sites around the UK where nuclear redevelopment could feasibly proceed and it plans a mix of nuclear and renewable energy in the long term.
