'Alternative' wind farms set to gain popularity - 18/01/2011

Customers who want to compare green energy may be intrigued to learn that alternative wind farm designs could become more popular in Lincolnshire.

According to the Echo, more unusual designs are likely to receive planning permission because wind generation no longer relies on the more traditional windmill-style turbines.

Councillor Stephenson Eyre, who chairs East Lindsey district council's planning committee, told the newspaper that planners welcome different wind farm designs.

"I think Lincolnshire and East Lindsey in particular already lead the way nationally in terms of renewable energy," he commented.

"And I'm certain any new wind farm technology would be well considered. We'd have a close look at them and see if they fit in with the landscape."

He noted that the impact on the surroundings is one of the most important concerns for residents because of the size and obvious nature of the turbines.

"But I think if a more aesthetically pleasing design was thought up then it could be something to be encouraged."
