Householders wanting to compare energy and secure a cheap gas tariff might be pleased to hear that one of the smaller energy suppliers has pledged to hold its prices steady.
Good Energy announced it will not be following in the footsteps of ScottishPower, British Gas and SSE by hiking prices, but instead will freeze the cost of gas and electricity tariffs until 2012.
Juliet Davenport, chief executive of the energy supplier, explained to Which? that the company has used improved weather forecasting methods to determine when to make purchases in the wholesale market, allowing it to trade renewable energy in an efficient way.
James Tallack, policy advisor at Which?, commented: "Good Energy's commitment to renewable electricity does mean it's one of the pricier energy suppliers.
"Nonetheless, ahead of what's shaping up to be an expensive winter for energy customers, we welcome the decision to pass efficiency savings through to its customers - that's how a competitive market should work."
