Business energy users that use a large amount of gas and electricity because of the industry they work in might agree that nuclear is the way forward.
According to Jeremy Nicholson, director of the Energy Intensive Users Group, a large nuclear component will be a low carbon solution for industrial electricity users.
"The nature of the carbon floor price that kicks in from 2013 has already raised wholesale electricity prices on the forward market for 2013, which affects the price at which suppliers are prepared to contract to our suppliers for a year or two," he pointed out.
"[This] risks giving windfall profits to existing low carbon operators and renewables, without necessarily encouraging that much more to be built."
Earlier this year, chancellor George Osborne announced that the carbon price floor will be introduced in April 2013 as the first step towards reform of the electricity market.
