Major energy supplier British Gas has begun a new marketing campaign designed to polish its green credentials, reports marketingmagazine.co.uk.
The supplier is focussing on its substantial investment in offshore wind farm projects in contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through clean energy generation.
It is also looking to highlight environmental concerns by encouraging Britons to think of their homes as a miniature planet to be looked after and cared for.
British Gas is also keen to position itself as a company which is seeking to help its vulnerable customers, as many homeowners have been pushed into fuel poverty by a series of price rises in recent months.
Centrica, the energy supplier's parent company, has announced plans to increase spending on its renewable energy projects, whereas several of its rivals have withdrawn environmental priorities in response to the global economic crisis.
Wind turbines are the highest-profile form of renewable energy, with offshore projects more popular than their onshore counterparts owing to their reduced visual impact.
