Isle of Wight works with energy supplier to deliver insulation scheme - 01/10/2009

Isle of Wight residents looking to compare energy prices could be encouraged by news that the island council has formed a partnership with E.On to deliver home insulation.

The Island Insulation Scheme will deliver free insulation for homeowners over the age of 70 or those on benefits, while other residents will be able to access it for reduced, subsidised prices, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

Thermal imaging will be used to assess the energy-efficiency of each home on the island and reports will be provided offering tips and advice on how the new scheme can work best for each resident.

Councillor Edward Giles, the council's cabinet member for the environment and transport, told the paper: "Not only will this help to reduce the island's carbon footprint and assist in addressing fuel poverty, but it will also create work for local people."

Cavity wall and loft insulation is designed to retain heat to produce cheap energy bills and also to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The government plans to insulate every UK home within the next few years.
