Royal Opera House to pursue reduced business energy rates - 03/11/2009
London's Royal Opera House is to pursue cheap energy rates and lower carbon emissions by enlisting the help of carbon strategy consultancy Power Efficiency.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme takes effect within the next few months and qualifying businesses will need to record and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in order to avoid paying fees.
John Seekings, director of operations at the Royal Opera House, said the organisation is keen to switch energy practices to ensure its environmental impact remains minimal.
Mr Seekings said: "As a publicly-funded organisation we want our audiences and the public at large to know we take energy-efficiency and our carbon footprint as seriously as they do."
The Opera House has its main performance venue in Covent Garden in central London, as well as a workshop in east London and a storage facility in Wales.
Businesses can make sure all non-essential electrical equipment is switched off when not in use to reduce consumption, while microgeneration facilities could be installed to produce clean energy.
