Energy efficiency home improvements 'to rise' - 06/07/2011

This summer could see a rise in the number of people hoping to secure cheap energy deals by making energy efficiency improvements to their homes.

According to Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, more consumers are thinking about the effects of their energy usage on their utility bills.

"There is a desire, which has been long-standing over the last few years, [concerning] a reaction to increasing energy bills. It is not necessarily a summer thing, but people will take advantage of summer to take on projects like this," he explained.

The trend, named ecovation, is about introducing upgrades to existing homes in order to make them better at conserving heat, such as by fitting insulation.

"That is almost certainly going to be something that people think about - particularly in light of ever-rising energy bills," Mr Orme added.

His comments came after BBC business editor Robert Peston predicted energy supplier British Gas will raise its prices before the month is out.
