Moves by British Gas to simplify its tariff structures - which may make it easier for people to compare energy deals and find cheap electricity - will be good news for customers, one group has stated.
Responding to the energy supplier's announcement that it is to simply its tariff structure and offer a clearer breakdown of costs on its bills, director of policy and external affairs at Consumer Focus Adam Scorer said it is pleasing to see "the penny has dropped".
It is good news that providers are realising complex pricing structures have confused and alienated user, he said, adding energy is a simple product and the market should reflect this.
Mr Scorer noted while the move will not directly help to bring prices down, it will make it easier for people to ensure they are on the best deals by making it simple to understand their gas and electricity costs.
Announcing the new policy, managing director of British Gas Phil Bentley said: "It's clear that the energy industry is facing a crisis of trust and we have all got to work much harder to rebuild public confidence."
