North Wales residents to get energy saving help - 05/03/2012

Residents in north Wales who are looking to get cheap gas and electricity may be able to benefit from a new scheme being run in Flintshire.

Rural regeneration agency Cadwyn Clwyd is looking to help people in Mold escape fuel poverty by offering tips on how to save energy and obtain any additional help that is available to them, the Flintshire Chronicle reports.

It is seeking to recruit ten volunteer energy champions who will be able to explain to residents what they can do to cut their gas and electricity expenses.

Project officer Silas Jones said: "The champions will also be trained to give advice on everything from the most suitable types of insulation for your home and how to access grants to pay for it, to which washing machines are the most eco-friendly."

Steve Woosey, energy expert at Eco Centre Wales, added the two main objectives of the programme are to cut carbon emissions and reduce people's heating bills.

Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that the Energy Saving Trust has been selected to run a new advice helpline backed by the government.
