Doorstep sales techniques practised by some energy suppliers should be stopped completely as customers take a very dim view of such tactics, according to Consumer Focus.
Research from the consumer group revealed half of all customers who signed up to a new energy deal on the doorstep before changing their mind did so because they felt pressurised.
Director of energy Audrey Gallacher commented: "The end of the road has been reached on cold-call energy doorstep sales. This industry has an appalling track record of mis-selling at people's homes and has had over a decade to change."
Four of the Big Six energy suppliers are currently being investigated by Ofgem over whether their doorstep sales marketing broke the rules, while Scottish and Southern Energy earlier this month announced it was suspending such sales.
