Energy supplier RWE npower has withdrawn funding for what was supposed to become the world's largest wave farm, green energy customers might be interested to hear.
The Siadar Bay development off the coast of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland will no longer be backed by the domestic energy supplier, although its owners are now seeking new investors.
Herald Scotland reported that the decision was due to an internal review.
However, chief executive of Scottish Renewables Niall Stuart claimed the move does not spell the end for Scotland's renewable energy ambitions.
He commented: "Nowhere else in the world has anything like Scotland's ambition to deliver 1,600MW by 2020."
Mr Stuart added that suppliers including ScottishPower, Scottish and Southern Energy and E.ON have put forward proposals amounting to more capacity than the rest of the world.
