People looking to switch energy resources could seek relevant training - 02/09/2009

Homeowners keen to compare energy resources and pursue cheaper, more environmentally-friendly practices could get training to help them.

The Energy Saving Trust has launched the Green Communities initiative, which offers a range of training opportunities covering specific subjects such as how to secure funding for energy-efficient measures and how to organise an energy audit, reports Community Newswire.

In addition, new day courses combine a variety of different courses into a single session that can offer broad advice on many different elements of efficiency, from how to sustain existing energy-saving programmes to how to save energy in listed buildings.

Louise Rutterford, a community energy advisor at Green Communities, told the website: "Anyone who has a finger in the community pie might want to come to one of these training courses to find out who is doing what in their area, who are the people to contact and to learn about the nitty gritty of running a community energy project."

Measures such as installing cavity wall and loft insulation are particularly recommended by the government, while homeowners could also switch gas and electricity suppliers for cheaper alternatives.
