Scottish Power withdraws cheap tariffs - 04/10/2011

People may like to perform an energy comparison in order to get cheap electricity and gas when they hear that one company has withdrawn some of its cheapest deals.

Scottish Power removed its Online Energy Saver 15 deal from sale yesterday (October 3rd), replacing it with version 16, which is five per cent more expensive.

This means there are no longer any tariffs on the market that offer average annual energy bills of under £1,000.

In addition, the gas and electricity supplier also pulled its cheapest fixed tariff - the Online Fixed Price Energy December 2012 - this morning, with no replacement yet announced.

The news comes shortly after EDF Energy withdrew its cheapest fixed-rate deal at the end of last week.

Mark Todd, director of energyhelpline.com, stated the removal of these deals "underlines the fact that customers need to act fast" in order to get cheap gas and electricity bills.

"However, customers needn't despair - they could still save hundreds on their household bills and switching energy tariff is one of the quickest and easiest ways to do so," he added.
