While many people may find performing an energy comparison can help them find cheap gas and electricity prices, there are a range of schemes available to vulnerable individuals to help them meet their bills.
One in ten households could be entitled to some form of assistance, but many are unaware of what options are available, according to the Home Heat Helpline.
Therefore, individuals have been urged to seek out expert advice on what grants or discounts they can apply for.
This has been backed by entrepreneur and star of the BBC's Dragons Den show Hilary Davey, who urged people to take the time to perform this activity, as they have nothing to lose, but could end up seeing significant savings.
She appealed to individuals to speak to vulnerable people they may know - such as friends, relatives or neighbours - and encourage them to seek assistance.
Backed by the Big Six energy providers, the Home Heat Helpline has been running since 2005 and has offered guidance to over 200,000 people since then.
