Notts council to offer energy mapping service - 03/01/2012

People in Nottingham who are performing an energy comparison to get cheap electricity bills could take advantage of a new service from their local authority.

The city council has unveiled an energy mapping strategy that uses geographical information to offer energy saving advice tailored to individual properties, the Guardian reports.

City energy manager at Nottingham City Council Alex Moczarski explained the tools will help residents become more intelligent in their use of energy and help cut consumption throughout the area.

"We want to be resilient to external price changes, to help make our citizens feel safer and have the ability to have low fuel bills as a result of us being able to generate our own energy requirements," he added.

The technology models how much households could save by fitting measures like insulation, double glazing and new boilers, as well as identifying suitable locations for items such as solar panels.

This could be a step many people may wish to take, as developments in renewable energy have led to £2.5 billion of investment in the UK so far this financial year, the Department of Energy and Climate change recently stated.
