SSE to offer annual energy reviews - 25/04/2012

Energy supplier SSE has announced it is to launch a wide-ranging programme to offer its customers a better service, including an annual review of their tariffs that may encourage customers to switch gas deals to an option that is better for them.

As well as ensuring individuals are on the most effective pricing plan, it will check if people are paying their bills in the most effective manner and are able to access any benefits or support schemes they are entitled to.

Initially, the energy reviews will be prioritised towards the firm's most vulnerable customers and will be rolled out across the business over the next 12 months.

Chief executive of the gas and electricity provider Ian Marchant said: "We want to work in collaboration with customers and other interested parties to further improve our performance and that of the industry as a whole."

He added he was pleased to confirm that the company has met all ten of the commitments it made in October last year in order to boost confidence among users, which included trialling the Annual Energy Review.

"The fact that in just six months SSE has delivered real changes that benefit all customers shows how much more effective swift action by responsible energy companies can be," Mr Marchant added.

However, the group has pledged not to stop improving its services and unveiled ten new goals to offer a better deal to customers.

These include making billing simpler and reducing the number of estimated bills it issues.

It has also promised to freeze its prices until at least October 2012 and ensure users on prepayment meters have access to the cheapest tariffs.

A range of customer service improvements will also see the introduction of 0800 freephone numbers to benefit people who need to get in touch with the supplier.

Earlier this month, SSE welcomed proposals by the government designed to offer customers a fairer deal, which it said fit in well with its own programme of initiatives.
