Residents urged to apply for efficiency grants - 26/04/2012

Households in Gloucestershire who want to enjoy cheap electricity and gas prices are being offered the chance to make their homes more energy-efficient.

Various grants for free home insulation are currently available and experts have urged local people to take advantage of this option, the Citizen reports.

Kay Welfare, spokeswoman for the Severn Wye Energy Agency, commented: "Everyone can now get free cavity wall insulation and anyone over 70, on a low income or with less than 60mm of insulation will qualify for free loft insulation."

She said this applies both to people who live in private rented accommodation and property owners.

Ms Welfare added that the grants currently on offer are "massive", but warned they will not stay at this level for much longer.

The National Insulation Association has already advised households that two-thirds of heat can leak through the walls and roof of a home that has not been insulated.
