Govt sets out Green Deal Code - 03/06/2011

Cheap energy customers who take part in the Green Deal when it is introduced next year will have their interests safeguarded under a new set of guidelines.

Climate change minister Greg Barker set out the Green Deal Code to ensure people who take up funding to install renewable energy technology will not be ripped off.

The minister commented: "The Green Deal will be the biggest home improvement programme since the Second World War, shifting our outdated draughty homes from the past into the future, so it's vital people can trust it."

He noted there will be "strict rules" about standards and consumers will have access to plenty of information and a proper complaints process.

In the meantime, domestic energy users can install equipment to generate green electricity under the feed-in tariff.
