Regular boiler servicing 'an essential maintenance task' - 29/02/2012

People looking to ensure they can get cheap gas and avoid claiming on their heat cover policy need to have their boiler serviced regularly, it has been stated.

British Gas said an annual check should be adequate for most households and advised people to make sure the engineer they choose is Gas Safe Registered - an accreditation that has replaced the older Corgi certificate.

It added if the professional identifies any faults, the householder should be informed quickly of any additional costs that will be required to make repairs.

The energy supplier stated: "It is widely recommended that the parts are only replaced with those also made by the manufacturer of the boiler, to ensure that they're compatible."

British Gas said people should only sign off on a service report when they are satisfied any work has been fully completed.

Recently, the AA warned up to 1.42 million people in the UK may have suffered a home emergency such as a boiler breakdown because they have put off essential maintenance tasks in order to save money.
